DC Announces World of Warcraft Comic

July 24, 2007 at 2:34 am (World of Warcraft News)

Flintlocke DC Comics has made it official: through its WildStorm label, the powerhouse comics publisher will release a series based on World of Warcraft. Here are the relevant names: Walter Simonson, writer; Ludo Lullabi, pencils; Sandra Hope, inker. The first six issues of the series will printed with two difference covers, one by veteran artist and creator Jim Lee, and another Blizzard art director Samwise Didier. While I personally find the whole dual-cover graft kinda loathsome, I guess those who fancy themselves “collectors” are compliant enough, and thus deserve to be gouged.

According to the press release, the story will begin with amnesiac human washing up on the shores of Kalimdor (i.e., Horde territory), and becoming enslaved by an orc shaman. Really though, shamans are currently too nerfed in-game to subjugate anyone, amirite?

In any case, expect some art to emerge at the San Diego Comic Con later this week. In my opinion, Flintlocke’s Guide to Azeroth is the current high benchmark. Can DC’s efforts stack up?

World of Warcraft Patch 2.2.0 goes live on PTR

Blizzard poster Hortus went on the World of Warcraft Forums to post the patch notes for the newest WoW patch: 2.2.0. Yes, we’re moving past 2.1.0 and its subsequent bug fixes and other changes.

So what’s new with patch 2.2.0? Well, a lot. Changes were made to crowd control durations in PvP, like the mages’ polymorph, druids’ hibernate and entangling roots, priests’ mind control, and others. Nearly all crowd control spells and abilities now have a reduced duration of ten seconds in PvP.

Another notable change in patch 2.2.0 is the change to the resilience rating mechanic to affect damage over time (DoT) attacks. Resilience rating currently only affects critical strikes though the change was announced recently. We don’t know about you, but we’re not too keen on visiting the warlock forums right now.

Anyway, if you want to take a look at the full patch notes, feel free to click the Read link below. Patch 2.2.0 has gone live on WoW’s Public Test Realm so skip on over there to check out the changes in person.

World of Warcraft running on iPhone

July 10, 2007 at 4:48 am (World of Warcraft News)

Alan Joyce of EverythingDigital.org uploaded a video clip over at YouTube showing Blizzard’s World of Warcraft running on Apple’s iPhone. He was able to do it with the help of Telekinesis, a third-party streaming program that allows users to remotely access their Macs through a collection of mini web applications on the phone.

Joyce noted that the experience wasn’t that smooth given WoW’s textures, graphics, and sound settings among others. Despite that, Alan Joyce mentioned that he could control several actions in the MMO video game through the iPhone interface like receiving and responding to in-game chat messages.

Anyone seeing a future deal between Blizzard and Apple? Possibly a WoW client for the iPhone? We guess we’ll have to wait and see.
